The West Point City Council approved recommended LB840 economic development awards for two local businesses.
Creative Expressions (applicant represented by Karen Palmer) was recommended to receive a zero-interest $25,000 loan and a $25,000 grant to support expansion after Ms. Palmer described purchasing the former Atlanta Chief building and plans to use part of it for expansion and rental space. Palmer said her business has been on Main Street for 21 years and currently employs about 10 people.
The West Point Dance Company was recommended to receive a zero-interest $22,000 loan and a $22,000 grant to expand its facility. Council moved and approved the package (motion by Rusty, second by Tom). The loans are zero-interest and will run concurrent with the loan/grant program terms for seven years as presented to council.
Council discussion focused on expected job creation and reuse of downtown commercial space; financial details beyond the recommended awards and the concurrent loan terms were not read into the record.
