Board appoints new student representatives; outgoing students and retirees honored

At the June 16 meeting the board accepted the interview committee’s recommendation and appointed three student representatives for the 2026–27 school year: Ethan Hernandez Himenez (Century High School), Katon Ser (Liberty High School) and Micaia (Micaia) Woods (Hillsboro Online Academy). The motion to appoint was moved and seconded and passed by roll call.
Before the appointment, the board presented plaques to outgoing student representatives Nicole and Hazel (Joseline was absent) and several board members and administrators offered thanks for the students’ participation, noting the students attended retreats, asked thoughtful questions and helped shape district decisions. Student speakers reflected on the experience: one said serving on the board increased confidence and underscored the importance of adults listening to student voices; another called the role an opportunity to learn how the district functions.
The board also heard remarks recognizing district retirees and praised HR leader Connor Williams for work on union relations and workforce diversification ahead of Connor’s retirement. Directors lauded graduation logistics and thanked staff for planning and execution of recent ceremonies.
The appointments and recognitions were procedural; the board did not discuss policy changes related to student representation at the June 16 meeting.
