The Hillsboro School District Board of Directors voted June 16 to adopt the district’s 2026–27 budget, appropriate funds for the coming year and impose the 2026–27 property tax levy as presented in the June 16 board packet.
Director Nancy Thomas moved the resolutions and Director Mark Watson seconded; the board conducted a roll call and the motion carried. The motion was introduced during the budget hearing portion of the meeting after the district reported there was no public testimony.
Board members framed the vote as the culmination of difficult choices. One director described a process that prioritized preserving teaching positions and staff despite fiscal pressures and praised district administrators and bargaining partners for collaborative negotiations that limited layoffs. The district said it had undertaken budget reductions totaling more than $10 million as part of the fiscal-year planning process.
The board’s public materials and the motion referenced the packet materials for the full budget and levy categorization. A district financial officer told the board earlier in the meeting that June is a busy month for payroll and that the district expected no surprises for the month.
The resolution was adopted during a roll call recorded in the meeting; the clerk announced the motion carried. The board recessed the budget hearing and returned to the regular session following the action.
The next procedural step is the usual administrative processing of the adopted budget and implementation of the appropriations and levy as approved; the board did not list additional follow-up votes at the meeting.
