The Village of Elmwood Board of Trustees approved several routine public-works contracts and a conditional building permit during its March 4 meeting.
Trustee Heather Scott moved to approve a package of consent items at the start of the meeting; Trustee Patric Euse seconded and the board carried the motion 4-0. Later, the board awarded a concrete-repair contract to DH Construction for $5,925 after reviewing competing bids, with Scott moving and Euse seconding; that vote was 5-0.
Public-works staff described several gate valves that have been paved or asphalted over and recommended excavation to restore access. Trustee Tony Greise moved to accept a Lovell bid of $2,200 to uncover those valves; Trustee Patric Euse seconded, and the motion passed 5-0. The board also authorized a $500 allowance to buy a gas-powered power washer and accessories for maintenance work after Greise moved and Scott seconded the motion; the vote was unanimous.
On land-use matters, applicant Mark Helmberger requested a building permit for 108 E C Street to install a carport tied to a planned used-auto sales business. Planning & Zoning recommended approval with a variance because the village zoning requires a 25-foot setback for commercial/residential property lines. The board approved the permit on the condition that Helmberger provide a survey and written, signed consent from adjacent property owners; the board tabled the conditional-use permit for the used-auto business to the next meeting pending a public hearing.
The board reviewed routine finance items during the meeting including payroll and vendor claims; items called out in the record included payroll of $4,020.92 and a BOK bond payment of $21,461.25.
The meeting concluded with department updates: the library’s next meeting is scheduled for April 6; park staff removed trees and stumps; streets staff advanced concrete-bid work; and sewer and water vendors are scheduled for upcoming maintenance and inspections.
The board adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
