Elmwood to move payroll in-house and consolidate QuickBooks accounts to save costs

Tony Greise, the village clerk, reviewed the village’s current payroll processing, fees and account structure and recommended cost-saving changes at the Sept. 10 meeting. The trustees approved a move to QuickBooks Core and in-house payroll processing on a unanimous 4-0 vote.
Greise recommended combining the Library and Village QuickBooks accounts into a single account to avoid duplicate subscription fees, and suggested ending use of an outside payroll company. Patric Euse moved to adopt QuickBooks Core and return payroll processing to village staff; Heather Scott seconded and the motion carried.
The minutes list current payroll and payroll-tax items among the claims (employees payroll $6,863.40, IRS payroll tax $2,042.09, and Nebraska Dept. of Labor items). The board did not provide a projected dollar savings during the meeting; the clerk will implement the change and report back.
The change will transfer processing responsibility to village staff and is intended to reduce recurring fees. The clerk will consolidate accounts and manage the transition to QuickBooks Core.
