Oak Brook Park District to seek IDNR bike grant and awards elevator contract to KONE

The Oak Brook Park District on April 21 voted to apply for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources 2025 Bike Trail Grant—a 50/50 matching grant the board discussed waiving rules to act on immediately—and approved a contract with KONE Elevator and Escalators for elevator control system upgrades not to exceed $190,580.
Parks and facilities Deputy Director Bob Johnson said the bike-path project would connect Jorie and Kensington near the North Athletic Fields and that the IDNR grant would require a 50% local match; he cited a grant amount of $20,000 at the meeting. The board waived its rules to approve applying for the grant and passed the application by roll call vote (4–0, Vescovi absent).
On a separate vote the board accepted KONE’s base bid plus selected alternates and performance bonds, approving an agreement for a total project cost not to exceed $190,580. Johnson said the new elevator system could be installed at the end of summer or early fall and that current elevators remain operational in the interim.
The board also noted other capital activity: athletic fields are prepped for spring, Splash Island aims to open by Memorial Day, and the district will receive a DuPage County Health Department Protect Swimmer Swim Lesson Fund grant to allow 20 youth swimmers a free summer session.
