The board discussed a travel authorization for attendance at the National Recreation and Park Association conference in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 15–18, 2025. Executive Director Laure Kosey said ten staff members and commissioners were slated to attend to earn continuing-education credits and maintain professional accreditation.
Commissioner Tina Chan questioned the value of sending that number of attendees and suggested the district send only one staff member. President Knitter and other commissioners urged a broader view: Knitter referenced a session on empowering young women and increasing female sports participation, and Commissioner Ron Gondek and Commissioner Ivkovic Kelley described value in attending workshops and seeing exhibits in person. The minutes record discussion but do not include a motion or roll-call vote on the travel authorization.
Staff and commissioners identified continuing-education units and in-person workshops as the rationale for attendance; Commissioner Chan requested additional justification and suggested limiting travel in light of cost.
