Committee forwards multiple Greater Greenville Sanitation District annexation requests to full council

The Greenville County Roads, Infrastructure and Public Works Committee voted June 16 to forward multiple annexation resolutions for the Greater Greenville Sanitation District to full county council.

Committee members approved resolutions to hold public hearings and to enlarge the district to include 1080 Altamont Road, 641 Altamont Road, 1000 North Parker Road and Winston Estates Subdivision. Each resolution was considered and voted on separately and passed by voice vote with four members in favor.

Staff told the committee that Greater Greenville provided the packet materials and that the county attorney's office had reviewed the proposed resolutions. "The materials that were contained in the packet were the ones that they intended to rely upon, including the signatures of the property owners they are seeking to service," a staff member said. Staff also said it did not independently verify petition signatures presented in the packet.

Committee discussion touched on petition counts and neighborhood support. A committee member described reviewing the packet and reported that most homeowners in one subdivision had signed in favor, while about 15 signatures were not returned; staff characterized the packet as indicating neighborhood-level support but did not confirm the count independently.

Several motions to hold public hearings and to enlarge the sanitation district were moved and approved; the committee voted to forward all approved resolutions to full county council for final action.

The measures will next appear on the full county council agenda where hearings and final votes will be scheduled.
