Oak Brook Park District re-elects Sharon Knitter as board president in 3–2 vote

Sharon Knitter was re-elected president of the Oak Brook Park District Board of Commissioners at the board's May 19, 2025, annual meeting after a contested roll-call vote. The board convened at 6:31 p.m. in the Canterberry Conference Room and Judge Michael Fleming administered the oath to newly elected Commissioner Tina Chan.
The contested election for president began with nominations from Commissioner Ivkovic Kelley and Commissioner Chan. A motion to elect Knitter was made and seconded and carried on a roll-call vote: yes — Commissioners Gondek, Ivkovic Kelley and Knitter; no — Commissioners Chan and Vescovi (3–2). Knitter then nominated Ron Gondek as vice president; the board approved that nomination by voice vote.
The board also reappointed Executive Director Laure Kosey to serve as board secretary, following the long-standing practice of naming the executive director as secretary. In a separate roll-call vote to elect the treasurer, President Knitter’s motion to elect Ivana Ivkovic Kelley passed by the same 3–2 tally as the presidential vote.
The annual reorganization set the board’s leadership for the coming year and was followed by routine consent-agenda business and department reports. The newly seated commissioners and leadership will next meet June 16, 2025.
