Credits director asks Connecticut dental board to accept written exam without extra hands-on requirement; meeting set for September
Summary
At a meeting of the Connecticut State Dental Commission, Michelle Cobbler, executive director of Credits, requested that the commission accept the Credits written exam in full and not require an additional Connecticut hands‑on OSCE/OSKE; the board deferred discussion and scheduled a full presentation for the September meeting, asking for plain-language materials in advance.

Michelle Cobbler, executive director of Credits, told the Connecticut State Dental Commission that Credits’ written exam should be accepted in full and that the commission should not require license applicants to take an additional Connecticut hands‑on OSCE/OSKE.
Cobbler told the panel the issue is a clarification of current rules: “It is my understanding from your rules and regs that you require the ADEX, that you accept the ADEX exam, you also accept the Credits exam, but with the Credits exam you require the ADEX OSKI component. That is an antiquated rule from when we did not have an OSKY and we do have an OSKI now.”
Chair Dr. Katz said the commission would not resolve the matter at this meeting and asked Credits to present at the commission’s next scheduled dental meeting in September. He and several members asked Cobbler to send a written explanation before that meeting that avoids acronyms and explains exactly what acceptance she seeks.
Commission member Ross and others said they could not follow several acronyms in the request and asked for plain-language materials. Dr. Katz invited the Credits representatives to observe the practical examination at Yukon and reiterated the board’s desire for clearer, non‑acronym documentation ahead of the September session.
The commission did not take action at this meeting; the request is set for the September meeting so the board can review written materials and hear a fuller presentation.
