Wisner council approves library repairs, fireworks sales and notes Tree City USA recognition

The Wisner City Council at its May 18 meeting approved a set of routine municipal items including a library roof repair estimate and permission to sell fireworks inside city limits, and it accepted a Tree City USA designation letter from the Arbor Day Foundation.
Council approved a repair to the Wisner Public Library's roof cap based on an estimate from Otte Construction of about $5,200 to replace rotting material and perform rubber roofing repairs; City Administrator Randy Woldt said there is not currently an interior leak and the work is expected to be completed before winter. Resident Dusty Krueger asked whether the work covered both roof and siding; Woldt clarified the issue was the rotting crown of the front fascia.
The council also voted 4–0 to allow the sale of fireworks within city limits (motion by Barry Meyer; second by LJ Parker). Chief of Police Doug Salmen provided the monthly police report and said Officer Rhodus is sharing a police vehicle while hers is in South Sioux City for repairs after an equipment failure; Salmen said half of the light bar and the siren were not working during a traffic stop.
Councilman Barry Meyer said he forwarded a cemetery land purchase agreement from Eric Knobbe to the city attorney; the matter will appear on a future agenda after legal review. Administrator Woldt also noted he is waiting for supplies for a drain pipe near True Value.
Mayor Terry Soden opened a letter from the Arbor Day Foundation announcing the City of Wisner has been named a Tree City USA community. The council adjourned at 6:21 p.m. to its next regular meeting on June 1, 2026.
