City administrator: gas line hit may cost Wisner about $70,000; park enhancement grant submitted

City Administrator and Utility Superintendent Randy Woldt told the Wisner City Council on Feb. 17 that a construction mishap had damaged a gas line serving a local flaker and that repair costs could be substantial.
"It will be close to $70,000.00 for the city’s part," Woldt said, and he said he would hold off on submitting claims to the city’s insurer while the county reviews whether it will cover costs associated with crossing the river and boring. Woldt said the city understood the county would present the issue to the county board for a decision on possible cost-sharing.
Woldt described the incident as a steel piling having been drilled through the line. He said gas service had been restored to the feedlot as of last Thursday at about 4:30 p.m. and that he will provide numbers to insurance if the county does not assume part of the expense.
Separately, Woldt told the council the CCCFF grant for the 2026 Park Enhancement Project had been submitted the previous Friday and that the city expected to hear whether it was awarded around mid-March.
Council members asked brief follow-up questions about the park posts and potential community-service painting for high school students; Woldt said the city plans to eventually replace the white posts with concrete. Mayor Terry Soden also introduced high school seniors who were attending the meeting.
The council adjourned to meet again on March 2, 2026.
