Monona County Drainage Trustees approve assessment timing for Oliver Lake cleanout and accept Sherman DD petition

The Monona County Board convened as Drainage Trustees June 9 to consider ongoing ditch work, contractor responsibilities and petitions.

Engineers from MOR Engineering and ISG met with contractor Dustin Wallis at Oliver Lake Lateral 1 to discuss tasks left to complete on a cleanout project, including work on surface drains that the contractor said he had not realized were included, removal of rock from spoil banks and re-seeding roughly 200 feet southeast of Larch. The trustees moved to assess Oliver Lake Lat 1 next year after the cleanout is finished so costs can be apportioned following substantial completion.

ISG engineer Amanda Goodenow told the trustees that reclassification for the McNeill Main Phase II cleanout is complete and that she will send the final report to the drainage office. Engineer Caleb Rasmussen said he would contact Attorney Gary Taylor about Union Pacific Railroad coordination and asked that Secondary Roads delay installing road culverts until the main ditch work is finished.

The trustees accepted a petition filed June 5 by landowner Sandra Cutler requesting a spot cleanout on Sherman DD (section 13, Sherman Township), citing a silted driveway culvert and other silted areas; the drainage clerk was directed to contact the next contractor on the list. The Drainage Trustees also approved the drainage claims presented; claims are on file in the drainage office.

The trustees did not set final billing at the meeting; the assessment decision for Oliver Lake Lateral 1 was scheduled to proceed after the contractor certifies substantial completion.
