At the May 6 Wymore City Council meeting, councilor Mark Meints reported that the background check for the current Police Chief candidate has been completed and councilors discussed the possibility of conducting a video interview; Mayor Collin Meints said he would investigate options.
Residents used the public-comment period to highlight public-safety issues. Paul Borzecofski told the council that EMS personnel recently saved a person’s life at the Wymore Country Club, and Kevin Sturm raised concerns about go-carts and dirt bikes on city streets after seeing an ordinance discussion on Facebook, emphasizing child safety. Jeff Spier asked about installing sidewalks along Highway 77 toward Dollar General; the mayor said a possible new state program to address the issue will appear on the next agenda.
Council member Neil Van Boening also noted interest in the Police Department Advisory Committee (PDAC); one resident has expressed interest in serving and the mayor will bring a recommendation to the council for consideration.
The meeting also recorded a Park Board request to raise pool-party fees and a motion to table that fee change to the next agenda.
