The Wymore City Council voted 3-1 on May 6 to adopt a revised Personnel Manual that updates previously approved council policies and replaces the city's 2014 handbook. City Clerk Janet Riensche presented the draft, saying the changes reflect policies the council had already approved, including an earlier vacation-policy update and an added holiday.
Council member Max Allen requested a revision-level notation on the final page and that the acknowledgement date on page 36 be updated from 2014 to 2026. City Attorney Andy Carothers recommended adopting the current draft so new employees receive an updated handbook and committed to conducting a comprehensive study of needed further changes — including a harassment policy update — by July 1. Council member Neil Van Boening voted no, expressing concern that passing the current manual could push other necessary revisions to the back burner.
The council also heard the introduction of a new library employee: Brook McKernan said she has worked part-time at the library since April 15; the attorney noted the Library Board had already approved the hire so no council action was necessary.
The personnel manual adoption was recorded with the requested date and revision-level modifications and will be available to new employees as the city continues a broader policy review.
