Wisner officials report tree damage and say bridge crew struck gas line; city told permit had expired

City Administrator and Utility Superintendent Randy Woldt told the Wisner City Council on Feb. 2 that two separate infrastructure incidents occurred recently: a tree fell onto a residence and a construction crew working on the new bridge struck a gas line.
Woldt said the tree incident has been reported to the homeowner's insurance company. He said the gas line near the Feller & Co. flaker was struck by the crew working on the new bridge. According to the minutes, the fire marshal informed city staff the contractor was operating without a current dig permit—the permit had expired about a week earlier. Woldt said the city can charge for the repair and that repairing the line will require boring a new line; he has communicated with the contractor's insurance and will turn the claim over to an insurance agent.
Council members also discussed generator availability during the cold spell. Councilwoman Cathy Gobar thanked staff for running generators; Woldt said the old generator intended for the Care Center is 'overkill' and that the nearby town of Pender expressed interest in purchasing it. City staff said they would seek a 350-size generator better suited to the Care Center.
Other brief reports: Stephanie James told council the police department received a $1,200 grant for a mobile radar unit, and Barry Meyer said the new road maintainer should arrive in mid-February.
