The Village of Valparaiso Board of Trustees approved a slate of routine and operational items during its Oct. 8 meeting, including a new past‑due collection letter and a $50 rehook fee, equipment trade‑ins, and authorization for a Department of Natural Resources monitoring device.
Trustee Turnwall moved and Trustee Brightenburg seconded approval of the claims and financial report, which listed payments across the Sewer, Operations & Maintenance, General and Parks funds; payroll for September was listed as $11,988.10 and payroll taxes to the U.S. Treasury totaled $4,932.78. The motion passed unanimously.
The board approved several equipment decisions: Trustee Turnwall moved and Trustee Brightenburg seconded the mower trade‑in, and Trustee Draper moved and Trustee Brightenburg seconded the skid‑steer trade‑in. Both motions were recorded as carried.
On a motion from Chairperson Dan Homes and a second from Trustee Turnwall, the board approved a Department of Natural Resources request to install a stream‑monitoring device on village property at no cost to the village. The board recorded the motion as carried.
