Allegany County schools honor retirees and state-champion student-athletes

The Allegany County Board of Education opened its June 16 meeting by recognizing district retirees and celebrating student-athlete accomplishments.
Officials read a long list of retirees and invited those present to receive certificates and photos. Board members and staff thanked employees for years of service ranging from more than 40 years to 18 years of service.
Coaches from Fort Hill and Mountain Ridge highlighted individual and team achievements: Jayden Emerson (state champion, 100-meter hurdles), Casey Marts (state shot-put and discus champion), Sadie Hamilton (state triple-jump champion), Zach Aberline (boys 1A 400-meter champion) and Mountain Ridge's girls' team (state champions). Coaches praised athlete dedication, named team members present, and said they expect continued success.
The recognitions included group photographs and plaques; board members and administrators applauded the honorees and encouraged families to celebrate the accomplishments.
The ceremonial recognitions preceded the board's business agenda, including the policy, budget and staffing items addressed later in the meeting.
