Nehawka Board Offers Clerk/Treasurer Position to McKenna Sobota, Sets Salary at $1,250

The Village of Nehawka Board of Trustees voted at a special meeting Sept. 17 to offer the clerk/treasurer position to candidate McKenna Sobota and set the monthly salary for the role at $1,250.
Chairman Tim Dineen called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and confirmed trustees Tim Dineen, Chad Krueger, Ian Begemann, Matt Anson and Pat Neu were present. Acting Clerk/Treasurer Pat Neu reviewed the duties of the clerk/treasurer position, saying the role must comply with state statutes and the village code, requires regular weekly hours, open communication with maintenance, and timely quarterly and annual state and federal filings.
Trustee Matt Anson moved, and Trustee Chad Krueger seconded, to set the monthly salary at $1,250; the motion carried. The board then conducted interviews with three applicants — McKenna Sobota, Morgan Turensky and Amy Archer — each asked about their reasons for applying, relevant experience, anticipated challenges and willingness to work a regular weekly schedule.
Following the interviews, Trustee Ian Begemann moved, and Chairman Tim Dineen seconded, to offer the clerk/treasurer position to McKenna Sobota; Trustee Matt Anson registered an abstention and the motion carried. Neu is to email the offer on behalf of the board; any acceptance will be recorded at the October regular board meeting.
The board noted that the outgoing clerk/treasurer, Chris Lowther, resigned at the August board meeting and that her last scheduled day is Oct. 1. Trustee Ian Begemann moved, and Trustee Chad Krueger seconded, to remove Chris Lowther from the village bank signature card and to temporarily add Pat Neu. The board directed Neu to temporarily fill the clerk/treasurer duties and to train the incoming hire.
The meeting adjourned at 8:09 p.m. and was attested by Pat Neu, Acting Clerk/Treasurer.
