Yutan council approves floodplain correction reading, accepts audit and discusses scooter ordinance

The Yutan City Council on March 17 approved the first reading of Ordinance 820, a Floodplain Management Code correction the state requested after the code’s January adoption. Community Planner Costa told the council the requested changes are corrections to ensure the code functions properly and the state apologized for the earlier mistake. The council voted to waive the remaining readings (motion by Councilmember Lawton; second by Councilmember Mach) and carried the measure unanimously.
The council also approved the fiscal-year 2024–25 audit after a motion by Councilmember Schimenti and second by Councilmember Lawton; the roll call vote was unanimous. The consent agenda — including claims and payroll totaling $76,720.45 — was approved earlier in the meeting.
On a discussion item, Mayor Thompson said the council has received a proposed ordinance regulating electric scooters and electric bikes and asked members to review it; he said Police Chief Luthy II would also review the proposal and return feedback to council. No formal action was taken on scooters at this meeting.
The council adjourned at 8:08 p.m.; the next city council meeting is April 21, 2026.
