Brewer approves emergency purchase of used ambulance for $45,000

The Brewer City Council on May 12 authorized the City Manager to purchase a used 2019 PL Custom ambulance (Ford F-450, VIN 1FDXE4FS9KDC46925) from the City of Old Town for $45,000, charging the expense to the Fire Ambulance CIP and funding it with a transfer from the General Fund unassigned fund balance.
The order (2026-A096) included an emergency preamble making the purchase effective immediately upon passage. City documents state the vehicle has approximately 125,000 miles and that the acquisition is contingent on an inspection and satisfactory recommendation from city staff that the vehicle is suitable for Brewer’s operational needs. The Council noted the purchase is intended to provide support and backup capacity alongside the City’s contract with Northern Light Health for primary ambulance transport services.
Councilors approved the order by unanimous vote. The purchase will allow Brewer personnel certified in emergency medical response to maintain continuity of services when contracted ambulances are unavailable.
