The Siloam Springs Board of Directors voted unanimously March 17 to approve Resolution 10-26, authorizing a federal grant application for construction phases of East Kenwood Road.
City engineer Brent O’Neal said the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission invited applications for projects under the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program, a competitive federal program that generally funds about 80% of eligible project costs with a 20% local match and requires compliance with Arkansas Department of Transportation federal-aid procedures. He said the city’s consultant, Garver, completed required revisions and that scope and phasing will depend on the amount of funding awarded.
When Director David asked whether the application would cover the entire corridor from Highway 16 to Bill Young, O’Neal said the full extent may be phased over two to three years depending on funding and noted the initial phase will focus on easements and right-of-way acquisition followed by utility relocation and construction as funds allow. The application deadline is April 2.
The motion to approve Resolution 10-26 passed by unanimous roll call.
