Bobby, a city staff member responsible for fleet matters, updated the council on June 15 about an aging police fleet and outlined a potential leasing or financing arrangement with Enterprise that could replace older vehicles, cover maintenance and create a rotation schedule.
Bobby said the department has five 8-year-old Explorers and one 9-year-old vehicle experiencing increasing transmission failures; she estimated a fully equipped replacement costs about $75,000. She reported Enterprise offered fleet financing or lease plans that include a maintenance program to shift repairs to the vendor and said Enterprise estimated a 5% to 10% reduction in maintenance costs and rapid access to loaner vehicles when a unit is down.
Council members asked about term lengths, local vehicle-brand preference for parts inventory, and whether leases include end-of-term purchase options. Bobby said Enterprise can supply three fully equipped patrol cars for roughly $75,000 apiece, that vehicles could be outfitted to municipal needs, and that staff would have more detailed pricing after a June 30 follow-up meeting.
No final procurement decision was made; staff said they will return with specific quotes, maintenance pricing and timeline options for council consideration before budget adoption.
