Kenosha parks commission approves permits for summer events, markets and sponsorship signage

The commission moved item 6 to the top of the agenda to accommodate staff and approved a request from the Rotary Club of Kenosha to hold its softball tournament at Lincoln and Sanarelli Sports Complex Park July 10–15, 2025. Bridal Kader, a Rotary Club member and past president, told commissioners, "This is our 53rd year of running the rotary softball tournament," and thanked the parks department for its support.
Commissioners also approved new and renewal sponsorship signage at Washington Park Municipal Golf Course. One commissioner said they wished signage were unnecessary for revenue purposes but supported the measure, noting staff’s effort to keep the signage as "aesthetically pleasing as possible." The commission approved the memorial marker request near a tree in Multifutile Park submitted by Megan Sheehan, after a public hearing with no speakers.
The commission approved permits for the annual Father’s Day car show at Baker Park, presented by Kenosha Plant Street Machine. Applicant Alex Costerman (1250 Village Center Drive) attended to answer questions about logistics. Commissioners discussed the loss of an on-site building and related utilities at Baker Park — noting the park no longer has electricity at the site and that organizers will use temporary solutions — and approved the event.
City staff and Community Relations Liaison Chris Coachman described plans for a Sept. 27 Lincoln Park kite festival organized through the Kenosha Park Alliance, with free kites and family activities. The commission approved the kite festival request and also cleared permit dates for the Kenosha Art Market at Union Park, submitted by Lemon Street Gallery.
The meeting concluded with approval of a Praise in the Park event submitted by 1 Voice Church Incorporated for Neuer Park on July 27, 2025. Pastor Lawrence Kirby explained the event will include food, outdoor worship and baptisms, and commissioners voted to approve the request. After brief commissioner comments wishing organizers well, the commission adjourned.
