ECISD approves personnel hires, adopts district improvement plan and reorganizes board officers

Trustees approved multiple hires recommended by the superintendent: Amy Vance for Executive Director of College, Career and Military Readiness; Stacy Nunez for Executive Director of District Operations; Jessica Moran as principal for Austin Montessori Elementary; Jared Smith as principal for Jordan Elementary; Walton Blaylock as principal for Milam Elementary; Mary Dorman as principal for Bowie Middle School; and Richard Kite as principal for Wilson and Young Middle School. Each recommendation was presented and approved by motion and vote following the board’s closed-session deliberations.
The board also unanimously approved the district improvement plan for 2026–27. The presenter described it as a "living document" with 79 performance objectives and 228 strategies intended to align work across campuses, use data for root-cause analysis and prioritize funding and supports. "We currently have on file... 79 performance objectives and 228 strategies," the presenter said while describing alignment with the district’s strategic plan.
Trustees approved the district’s compensation plan for 2026–27, noting last year’s average teacher increase and explaining that this year’s adjustments focus on statutorily required changes and targeted catch-up amounts rather than new broad increases. The student code of conduct and handbook fees were presented with no substantive changes and approved.
Finally, trustees reorganized board leadership: the board selected Steve Brown as president, Bob Thayer as vice president, and Christine (last name recorded earlier as Christine Stanley) as secretary. The superintendent offered closing remarks and the meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
All personnel approvals and governance actions were recorded as motions, seconded and approved by the board in open session.
