Council approves budget amendments, grant-funded park and water projects and continues one-mill levy

The Butte-Silver Bow Council of Commissioners on June 3 passed a package of budget amendments and grant-funded projects, approved a one-mill levy continuation for economic development and advanced an ordinance relating to the Fire Department.
At the meeting the council placed three previously introduced budget-related resolutions on final reading and approved them by unanimous voice vote. Resolution No. 2026-22 continues the imposition of a one-mill levy for economic development beginning in fiscal year 2026–2027 and continuing through fiscal year 2027–2028. Resolution No. 2026-25 appropriates unanticipated revenue from Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation wildland fire deployments to cover wages, benefits and equipment purchases for participating fire department members. Resolution No. 2026-26 directs the Butte-Silver Bow treasurer’s office to mail notice of pending tax-deed issuance to interested parties and to issue tax deeds where redemption periods have expired under Section 15-18-212, MCA.
The council also voted to suspend the rules to advance two Department of Justice Natural Resource Damage Program grants. Resolution No. 2026-29 appropriates DOJ Natural Resource Damage Program funds for rehabilitation work at Basin Creek Park; Resolution No. 2026-30 appropriates DOJ Natural Resource Damage Program funds for the water-meter program. Both suspensions and the resolutions passed by voice vote, 9–0.

What happens next The appropriated funds will be applied to the projects identified in the resolutions (sheriff vehicle replacement and county capital improvements, wildland fire deployment costs, Basin Creek Park rehabilitation and the water-meter program). Where grants require further department-level action or execution of agreements, staff will return to the council as required under existing procurement and contracting policies.
The council also continued work on ordinance language related to the Fire Department (Council Bill/Ordinance No. 2026-02), which remains under consideration.
