The proclamation, read by the chair, highlighted Pennsylvania's dairy sector and included statistics cited by the board: the Commonwealth ranks eighth in total milk production, has 4,850 dairy farm families, supports more than 47,000 jobs and contributes nearly $11.8 billion annually to the state economy. The board said the proclamation recognizes farm families, processors and others who provide dairy products to consumers.
Madison thanked the commissioners and described her outreach work, including the "Fill a Glass with Hope" campaign that distributes milk to local food pantries. "My goal this year is 5,000," she said, noting the group raised about 3,500 units last year and plans additional fundraisers to meet the target. She also directed listeners to the group's Facebook page for information.
Earlier in the meeting a public commenter who identified herself as Mary urged the county to support the dairy industry and local farmers and encouraged residents to join the Farm Bureau. "If you eat, please join," Mary said, noting recent farm closures and concerns about animal health issues and milk‑quality controls.
The proclamation presentation and public comments came during a regularly scheduled commissioners meeting that included routine reports and several consent items on the agenda.
