Solar array at 43 Old Town Lane continued for redesign after board raises visibility concerns

The Dennis Old Kings Highway Regional Historic District Commission continued a solar-panel application for 43 Old Town Lane to its Oct. 8 meeting and asked the applicant to submit redesigned plans by the 23rd.
Leah of Katuwit Solar told the commission the proposal calls for 34 black-on-black panels placed on the rear roof; she said the house is set back more than 200 yards and that the dark shingles should help the array blend in. Several board members said they still found the array visible from public vantage points on adjacent scenic roads and cited the commission’s "minimally visible" standard for arrays in the strictest district.
Homeowner Steve Bedoy said he had hoped the set-back would reduce visibility but said he would work with the installer to explore reconfiguration, including moving panels to east-facing roofs that would not be visible from the roads. "We took a shot...we thought maybe because it was set back ... it might be approved," Bedoy said, and agreed to consult with the solar team.
A board member moved to continue the application to the Oct. 8 meeting to allow the applicant time to redesign; the motion was seconded and approved. The board asked for updated plans to be uploaded to the public portal and delivered to town hall by the 23rd so they can be posted ahead of the next hearing.
The continuance preserves the applicant’s ability to revise the proposal; the commission did not deny the project at this meeting.
