Wellton council approves ADOT HURF exchange to fund Williams Street improvements

The Wellton Town Council voted unanimously March 3 to adopt Resolution R2026-752, authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation under the Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF) exchange program to pay for improvements to Williams Street from Oakland Avenue to Los Angeles Avenue.
John Klein of Core Engineering presented the design and said the firm developed the project "to improve accessibility and storm water flow." Grants Administrator Terri Barriga explained the grant funding and approval processes the town will follow to use HURF funds for the work.
Council Member Cecilia McCollough moved to adopt the resolution; Council Member James Sampson seconded. The council approved the motion on a 5-0 vote (Davidson, McCollough, Sampson, Vice Mayor Barbara Biggs and Mayor Michelle Jones voting aye).
The resolution authorizes staff to execute the necessary documents to implement the IGA with ADOT. Council materials state the HURF exchange funding will be used to cover construction and related costs; staff will return with any further required approvals and implementation steps if needed.
