The Wellton Town Council on Feb. 3 voted unanimously to recommend two Special Event Liquor Licenses to the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Controls, clearing the way for alcohol service at the Pioneer Day Fiesta on Feb. 21 and at the Tour de Fields “Bike Bash” pre-party on March 20. Mary Miranda presented both requests, noting each includes a beer garden, security plans, barricades and age-restricted access.
Council Member Cecilia McCollough moved to appoint Ellston Grubaugh as the Pioneer Day Parade grand marshal after staff reported a strong community consensus behind his nomination; Council Member James Sampson seconded the motion and it passed 5-0. The appointments and license recommendations were procedural actions that the council referred to state authorities and to event organizers for final permitting and operational oversight.
The Council’s recommendation for each liquor license followed the formal public-hearing process; council members said there were no public comments opposing the applications. The town’s event organizers will proceed with state-level licensing and the town’s event logistics, including planned street sweeping and security coordination ahead of the Pioneer Day and Bike Bash events.
The council is scheduled to next meet on March 3, 2026.
