Mountainaire board orders third-party playground inspection, approves sprinkler fix and schedules garage sale

The Mountainaire Homeowners Association Board of Directors on May 11 directed its property manager, VIS, to arrange an independent third-party inspection of playground equipment before the board approves any repairs.
The move followed review of a quote from Northwest Playground that board members characterized as possibly inflated. Board member Caralee moved and fellow board member Channing seconded the motion to commission an outside inspection; the board approved the action unanimously. The inspection is intended to identify safety-related repairs and provide an estimate of the remaining useful life of the playground equipment, so the board can avoid unnecessary spending.
The action was one of several maintenance decisions at the meeting. The board unanimously approved a $670 request from landscaping contractor NLS to repair sprinkler control nodes by the park. In a separate matter, the board agreed to pay half of the cost to repair fence damage at 2442 NE Sunnymede and specified that it will pay the vendor directly rather than reimburse the homeowner; Board member Kwasi will contact the homeowner to confirm whether a vendor estimate is in hand.
Board members also discussed fence‑staining bids and agreed to evaluate RFP responses and select a vendor at the May 22 meeting, noting one board member’s point that fences may require full replacement in about eight years and that long‑term cost should inform the staining decision. The board asked Neil to summarize responses and bring vendor comparisons to the next meeting.
On community events and outreach, the Social Committee confirmed the community garage sale set for June 6; Caralee said she will post the event to the North Kitsap Community Facebook page and Channing volunteered to print and post flyers on nearby streets. Board member Jeff Rasmussen said he is seeking someone to take the lead on the Social Committee and to help with the newsletter.
The board scheduled a new mid‑month meeting cadence for the fourth Friday of each month at 6:00 p.m. and agreed to revisit a draft resident letter about playground vandalism at the upcoming May 22 meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
