Oak Park’s Event Hub nears completion; ribbon cuttings set for June 22 and June 30

City officials told the Oak Park City Council on June 15 that the Event Hub construction is largely complete, with siding, concrete and most interior finishes finished and final inspections in progress.
Assistant City Manager Dave DeCoster said staff has received the final health‑department inspection and other mechanical and electrical signoffs and expects a public unveiling and ribbon cutting during the State of the City address on June 30. The city will provide an open house and a community concert on the amphitheater stage that evening.
Other Elevate Oak Park projects are also moving to opening. The Oak Park Woods playground will hold a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. on June 22, with public access thereafter. Staff described the slide as roughly 35 feet tall, with pour‑in‑place safety surfacing and trellis plans for the planted green wall (the structural wall will be completed later to meet Buy America requirements).
Staff also said the 11 Mile parking lot reconstruction includes a new, approximately 850‑foot mural funded through prior corridor improvement efforts; the parking‑lot ribbon cutting is scheduled for July 9. Director Kim Maroney told council the 11 Mile special‑assessment district set up to help finance the parking lot capped assessments at $281,000 and allows a 10‑year payment option at 2% interest.
Council members praised staff work on the Event Hub and other projects. DeCoster noted the project has had few change orders and that only one change order has been recorded during construction. Staff will present final punch‑list and closeout items following the public events.
