Chief Dawson briefed the council on a forthcoming ordinance to insert selected appendices of the International Fire Code into the municipal code (chapter 15), giving the city clear legal authority to enforce standards the departments already use.
Dawson said the appendices cover fire sprinkler requirements, hydrant location and distribution, fire access roads, hazardous-occupancy safeguards and related topics that engineering and the fire department already consider in building reviews. He told the council that state law allows municipalities to adopt appendices specific to local needs and that the city will propose only the appendices that apply to South Jordan.
Staff said the change is largely codification of practices already in use; the ordinance will require some renumbering of code sections and will appear in the next council packet for formal action. No formal vote was taken at the study meeting.
