Wenden Elementary Board approves 2026-27 calendar, freezes pay and adopts numerous policy advisories

At its Jan. 20 meeting the Wenden Elementary School Board approved the FY2026-2027 calendar, certified and classified salary schedules, adopted a bundle of policy advisories and voted to freeze step raises for certified and classified staff; votes on motions were unanimous where recorded (3-0).
The Wenden Elementary School Board of Trustees voted Jan. 20 to approve the FY2026-2027 school calendar, adopt certified and classified salary schedules and impose a salary freeze for both certified and classified personnel for the coming school year.
Board Clerk Brianna Davis called the regular meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. and the board moved through a mostly procedural agenda. After adopting the consent agenda, Superintendent Gloria Dean reported current enrollment at 72 students, said teachers are preparing students for Arizona state testing and named Spelling Bee winners Karla Avila and Miguel Felix, who will represent the school in Parker on Feb. 19, 2026. Dean also noted the Science Fair is scheduled for the end of February and that new superintendent Lonnie Lewis visited campus.
On new business, the board approved the district calendar for FY2026-2027 as presented. It also approved the certified and classified salary schedules for FY2026-2027. Separately, the board voted to freeze step raises for certified personnel and to freeze step raises for classified personnel for FY2026-2027. Each motion as recorded in the minutes carried by the board with an approval recorded as 3-0.
The board also voted to approve and adopt a comprehensive set of policy advisories (Nos. 917–959 as listed in the agenda), which include new, revised and deleted policies and regulations on topics such as support services, environmental and safety programs, hazardous materials, student transportation, food services and records retention.
The board set its next regular meeting tentatively for Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., and adjourned the meeting at 6:34 p.m.
