Superintendent: Wenden Elementary moved into top 200 for state facilities funding after SFB visit

Superintendent Gloria Dean told the Wenden Elementary School Board of Trustees on Oct. 21 that School Facilities Board evaluators visited campus Sept. 29–30 and that the district was “moved to the top 200 schools in Arizona” among roughly 2,000 schools eligible for SFB funding.
Dean said evaluators reviewed a range of needs, including the intercom/bell system and playground sand, and described the SFB process ahead: the district must finalize and submit paperwork to the state, then refer to the SFB vendor list and invite vendors to campus for bids. Dean said that bidding and project planning are expected to begin in about a year and that the work will be phased into a five-year plan.
The superintendent also summarized recent school activities in the report: the volleyball team finished second at the Le Pera Tournament on Sept. 27, parent–teacher conferences Oct. 13–15 were well attended, and an awards assembly on Oct. 16 involved parents presenting student awards. Dean announced that Red Ribbon Week will begin the week after the meeting and that the schedule was included with meeting materials.
Next steps identified by the superintendent are administrative: complete SFB paperwork, await final SFB approval, then advertise and evaluate vendor bids according to the SFB vendor list and procurement rules. The board did not take formal action on the facilities report during the meeting.
