Audubon County supervisors consider flooring removal, dispatch move and temporary out-of-county inmate housing during HVAC work

Custodian John Hansen presented a Site Services quote for asbestos and tile removal in the Treasurer, Dispatch and Recorder offices and asked whether to include flooring in the vaults while the courthouse is closed; supervisors favored removing all flooring to avoid a second closure but requested an updated quote that includes the vaults before making a final decision.
Sheriff Todd Johnson reported dispatch has been moved to the third floor of the courthouse but the electrical fuse box required adjustments to handle equipment; Johnson also said the jail was closed while HVAC work is completed and inmates are being housed out of the county until clearance to return.
Why it matters: the county must balance building safety, access, and continuity of essential services. Supervisors indicated a preference to do comprehensive flooring/asbestos removal while the courthouse is closed, pending a revised quote that includes vaults.
