Audubon County approves claims, updates levy coding advice and hears Veterans Affairs plan to grow funding

At its June 25 meeting the Audubon County Board of Supervisors approved department claims and addressed upcoming budget coding and levy changes while hearing a request from the interim Veterans Affairs director to use remaining allocation funds.
The board approved claims submitted by various departments totaling $20,537.78 (motion Sorensen/Hansen; vote all in favor) and later approved a corrected pending expense publication for $171,073.07 to be published at the end of June. Auditor Lisa Frederiksen reported that the state had changed the maximum rural basic and rural supplemental levies to reflect the state formula; she said total dollars between the two rural fund categories remain unchanged and suggested that several costs, including airport authority and IT FICA wages, could be coded to rural basic instead of rural supplemental in FY25.
Beth Watson, the interim Veterans Affairs Director, asked the board to permit spending the remainder of the current allocation now so the dollars would not need to be returned before fiscal year end; supervisors agreed to approve later claims when they come in. Watson said Audubon County’s veterans funding currently totals $178,457 and that the FY25 county allocation will be $13,000 (up from $10,000) because $3,000 is allotted for national training. Watson said her goal is to increase the county’s veterans funding to $300,000.
The board also discussed, without final action, Courthouse roof repair quotes (awaiting subcontractor responses from Graphite) and a records‑storage issue raised by Barb Jacobsen about old Supervisor minute books kept in the City Hall basement; Chair Hansen said he would address relocation with the City.
