Council prepares contingent cancellation of library contract if Southfield doesn't amend by June 30

A staff member told the council: "unless we have something in our hand before June 30, consider this for cancellation letter." Council members asked staff to follow up with Southfield leadership and provide written confirmation.
Council and staff also discussed legal constraints tied to the 1979 interlocal agreement and noted that, absent a written amendment, contract terms remain enforceable as written. The legal department was reported to have prepared a draft amendment and to post it on the library board agenda for the evening.
Next steps: staff will send a revised draft letter to Southfield and, if no amended agreement is received by June 30, the city will proceed with the cancellation process required by the contract.
