The Scowhagen Planning Board unanimously approved revisions to the town’s proposed solid waste management ordinance language and agreed to send the cleaned‑up draft to the town manager and Select Board ahead of town meeting.
Board members agreed to remove an ambiguous first paragraph that risked being read to prohibit residents from hauling their own household trash, and to merge and reorder subsequent sections so the ordinance begins with provisions for residents, non‑resident taxpayers and then commercial haulers. One member suggested starting the commercial hauler text directly rather than preserving the current 9.1 formatting; the board agreed on a cleaner order and language to reduce confusion.
The board confirmed that commercial hauler licenses will continue to be issued by the town manager and that the revised draft will next be reviewed by the town manager and Select Board before being placed on the town meeting warrant.
With no additional changes the board moved, seconded and voted unanimously to forward the revised ordinance to the next steps in the adoption process.
