Planning board recommends Solid Waste Management Ordinance changes to Selectboard

At its Feb. 3 meeting, the Town of Skowhegan Planning Board reviewed and voted to recommend updates to the Solid Waste Management Ordinance.
Board discussion centered on whether to add the word "commercial" to Section 9 (Permitting). Members determined the term was already defined in the section and agreed to remove the entire paragraph rather than add language that might be redundant. Cynthia Kirk (Transfer Station Supervisor) praised Town Planner Turner Allen’s work on the draft and noted that Code Enforcement Officer Aaron Crocker had also completed a review.
Jeff McCabe moved that the board recommend adoption of the revised ordinance to the Selectboard; Dan Luce seconded the motion and it passed 7-0. The Planning Board recorded that the ordinance will go next to the Town Manager and the Selectboard before being placed on the Town Meeting warrant for final voter approval.
Board members asked that staff continue review and provide any additional clarifications before Selectboard consideration. The recommendation is advisory; the Selectboard and then Town Meeting retain final authority to adopt or amend the ordinance.
