Board approves personnel slate and three nurse-substitute contracts to expand coverage

Tuscaloosa City Schools’ board approved a slate of personnel actions and contracts to expand nursing coverage after receiving the superintendent’s recommendations.

“Starting on page one, you have one resignation, one new certified personnel, one rehire of a certified personnel, two transfer of administrative personnel…,” Dr. Cameron said while summarizing the superintendent’s personnel and supplemental lists, which also included multiple classified hires, reassignments and contract extensions.

On the supplemental list Dr. Cameron summarized additional hires and incentives and detailed contract extensions. Board members asked no separate questions for any personnel item and approved the package by voice vote.

Dr. Cameron also explained the district’s need for more nurse substitutes and requested approval of three contracts with Steppingstones Group to expand coverage for athletics and field trips. “So what we need, uh we're asking for the contracts of these three to be approved so we can have an additional subs,” he said.

The board moved and seconded the nurse contract approvals and the chair announced the motion carried on a voice vote; the transcript records board members saying “I” or “aye” but does not record a roll-call tally.

What happens next: The approved personnel and contract actions will be processed by human resources and the district will deploy the additional nurse substitutes as needed for athletics and field events.
