Library media specialist outlines digital access push, expanded audiobooks and laptop carts

The presenter said the district launched new library webpages that consolidate online databases and the Destiny catalog so students and families can access resources from home. The District also improved the Destiny Discover interface and expanded the Sora digital collection to include more ebooks and audiobooks; the presenter noted an emphasis on acquiring Spanish-language audiobooks for struggling readers.
The district purchased laptop cart(s) using common school funds to increase equitable access; the presenter said the plan is to have a cart sufficient for a classroom (reported as about 30 devices once all ordered) so devices are not confined to one room. The library team also reorganized fiction and began work on nonfiction cataloging to improve discoverability.
During questions board members asked whether Sora includes read-along capability; the presenter explained Sora offers ebooks and audio but reading along requires a checked-out copy. Board members thanked the presenter for the work and later approved the presenter for the library media specialist position.
