Kennebunk Select Board approves Memorial Day road closures, temporary Parsons Beach leash and routine consent items

On May 12, 2026 the Kennebunk Select Board approved a package of routine items and two time‑sensitive public-safety measures during a meeting at Town Hall and on Zoom. The board authorized road closures for the Memorial Day Parade, adopted a temporary leash requirement at Parsons Beach to protect nesting plovers, and approved the consent agenda, which included election clerk appointments and donations to Kennebunk Fire Rescue.
The board voted unanimously in favor, 6–0 with one member absent, on each motion. Lisa Pratt moved the motions approving the consent agenda and the road‑closure request; Karen Plattes seconded the consent agenda motion and William Ward Jr. seconded the road‑closure motion. The consent agenda covered approval of the April 28, 2026 minutes; the appointment of multiple election clerks through June 30, 2028; acceptance of donations to Kennebunk Fire Rescue (including memorial gifts); and the acceptance of a committee resignation.
The Select Board also signed the warrant for the June 9, 2026 Annual Town Meeting referendum election.
On the Memorial Day Parade, the board approved closures requested by American Legion Post 74 for Monday, May 25, with a parade start time of 2:00 p.m. The motion listed approximate closure windows (including 1:45–3:00 p.m. and 1:55–2:45 p.m.) and specific intersections and side streets to be closed for the event.
Separately, the board acted on a seasonal wildlife protection measure after staff notified members that the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service recommended a temporary leash requirement at Parsons Beach because of nesting plovers. The motion requires dogs to be leashed at Parsons Beach until further notice and authorizes the Town Manager to lift the restriction when appropriate.
All actions were recorded as motions with identified movers and seconders and passed by a show‑of‑hands vote. The meeting record notes no public comments during the public‑comment period.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for May 26, when members may revisit outstanding items such as the Maine Municipal Association nomination process.
