Barney reported a May 20 meeting at the office with representatives from Apple Valley Waste (AVW) — Darren Gruendel, John Doyen and Brad Dennen — where the water bill and AVW’s interest in continuing work with Burcell were discussed.
Staff member Lynne Lashley summarized recent outreach and operational activity: a Head Start field trip to the Grapevine Recycling Center on May 1, an incident at the South Berkeley Recycling Center where attendant Michael Day confronted a customer about dumping more than the allotted amount of oil for the day, and a shred event on May 16 that drew 126 vehicles and collected just under 4 tons of paper.
Lashley also reported that Operation Greenlid winners were presented at the Berkeley County Commission office on May 7 (St. Joseph $500, Martinsburg Middle School $300, Blue Ridge Community College $200) and that a mower attachment donated by Stonebridge Golf Course is ready for use at GVRC. Clint Hogbin said he and other staff attended a Solid Waste Management Board conference and that the authority received an unclaimed property fund claim from the West Virginia Treasurer’s Office.
The minutes record these updates but do not include a copy of the lease, financial terms of the partnership discussions with AVW, nor the staffing response to the oil-dumping incident.
