Oracle board approves one-year pilot of SAVVAS 3rd-grade ELA curriculum

The Oracle Elementary School District No.2 Governing Board approved a one-year pilot of the SAVVAS ELA curriculum for 3rd-grade classrooms at Mt. Vista K-8 School.
Superintendent Mrs. Nehrmeyer presented the recommendation, noting that SAVVAS already is used in grades 4–8 and that the proposal comes from 3rd-grade teachers seeking to boost reading proficiency. The board approved a 60-day display period — Aug. 8 through Oct. 14, 2024 — during which the curriculum will be publicly available for review. The district will fund one year of use for SY24/25; the board will reconsider formal adoption on Oct. 14, 2024.
Board members discussed concerns and agreed to proceed with the one-year paid pilot instead of immediately entering a multi-year contract. The pilot will allow staff to evaluate classroom impact before any five-year contract is considered.
