GM recommends 3% adjustment to district wage step program to offset inflation

General Manager James Derbin recommended that the Castroville Community Services District adjust its existing Wage Step Program by 3% for the 2026/2027 fiscal year to remain competitive and to keep pace with inflation. Derbin presented the recommendation at the Budget & Personnel Committee meeting on May 5 and said the preliminary budgets will be amended to reflect the proposed increase.
Derbin explained the 3% adjustment is intended to maintain competitiveness for staff compensation; committee members reviewed the recommendation alongside employee health benefit discussions. The committee did not take formal action at the May 5 meeting and will provide its recommendation to the full Board at the regular meeting on May 19, 2026. Final adoption of any wage adjustments will occur only if and when the full Board approves the FY 2026/2027 budgets, currently scheduled for June 16, 2026.
