Chairperson Roger Miller moved that the village obtain a quote from MTZ to replace the water mains on Lincoln Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets; Trustee Matt Shaw seconded the motion and it carried, per the meeting record.
The board discussed the project in the context of the village’s capital needs and funding capacity. Clerk-Treasurer Jen Kasl and trustees reviewed the annual budget and outstanding bond payments to assess how the work might be funded.
Trustees noted potential revenue sources for capital work including highway allocation funds, local sales tax, tax-increment financing (TIF) proceeds and interest earned on certificates of deposit (CDs). The discussion did not include a finalized funding commitment; the motion authorized obtaining a contractor estimate so the board can evaluate costs and financing options.
The board directed Clerk Jen Kasl to schedule a follow-up meeting with engineering firm Olsson and financial advisor Northland Securities to go over assessments and discuss future street projects and funding mechanisms.
Votes at a glance: • Motion to obtain a quote from MTZ to replace the Lincoln Avenue water mains — mover: Chairperson Roger Miller; second: Matt Shaw; outcome: approved (meeting record notes motions carried unanimously unless otherwise stated). • Motion to adjourn the meeting — mover: Matt Shaw; second: Nate Hitchins; outcome: approved.
The special meeting adjourned at 6:21 p.m. The board will consider the MTZ estimate and related financing at a future meeting.
