Neighborhood Development Services staff told the Historic Preservation Commission on June 17 that the comp‑plan update is progressing through steering‑committee review and that staff will finalize drafts and conduct more public outreach this summer and fall.
Staff said drafts of the transportation and parks and recreation elements were presented to the steering committee and that adoption is targeted for early next year after additional outreach and refinement. A memo with an updated schedule was distributed to commissioners.
A commissioner asked whether the city was building affordable housing. Staff confirmed the city purchased a multi‑family‑zoned parcel on North Summit Street (located between a cemetery and a hilltop) and said the intent is to develop an affordable housing project on that site. Staff said the purchase was part of the city's federal pro‑housing grant application supporting elements of the comp plan and a parking study currently under way.
Commissioners also discussed the former ACT property (site work visible, preliminary plat to come to the commission) and infrastructure changes: staff said council recently acted on intersection improvements at Dodge Street and that a stoplight is expected later this year.
