Leacock Township appoints ordinance review committee, discusses balancing growth and farm preservation in comprehensive plan update

Chairman Mike Sensenig announced the appointment of a committee to review and update Leacock Township’s ordinances during the board’s June 2, 2026 meeting.
The committee will include Chairman Mike Sensenig, Zoning Officer Joe Kennedy, Planning Commission Chairman Greg Hurst and Zoning Hearing Board member Kevin Southam, Sensenig said. The board recorded the appointments without objection.
The committee will examine current township ordinances and recommend updates to align regulations with current needs, Sensenig said. He reported that he had discussed the comprehensive plan update with the Lancaster County Planning Department and proposed adding language that highlights the township’s desire to strike a balance between growth and farm preservation.
Township Manager Christopher M. Slaymaker and Zoning Officer Joe Kennedy were listed as staff participants to support the committee’s work. The board did not set a public timetable for proposed ordinance revisions during the meeting.
The board adjourned at 7:13 p.m.; no vote on the comprehensive plan language was taken at this session.
