The Town of Gilford Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint Deputy Police Chief Dustin Parent as chief of police, effective June 14, 2026, at an annual salary of $130,000. The appointment was made by motion of Selectman Gus Benavides, seconded by Selectman Richard Grenier, and recorded during a non-public session on May 27.
The action followed a non-public discussion with Police Chief Kris Kelley and Deputy Chief Parent about a pending vacancy in the department. According to meeting minutes, the Board agreed to meet again in non-public with Deputy Chief Parent after the regular business to continue discussion of the vacancy before making the appointment. The motion to appoint was then moved and passed 3-0.
The minutes record related personnel actions earlier in the evening: the Board voted to continue Chief Kris Kelley’s insurance benefits through Aug. 31, 2026, and to continue Town Administrator Scott Dunn’s insurance benefits through Dec. 31, 2026, with Dunn agreeing to remain on-call to assist the incoming administrator. Those benefits motions were approved unanimously prior to the appointment.
The appointment was finalized in non-public under the RSA provisions cited in the minutes. The Board reconvened in public and adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
